Wine of the month November 2022

We are getting closer to the holidays and that means we like to eat and drink good things no matter how much the cost and basically spoil ourselves! There are að lot of really good midpriced to expensive wines here in Iceland that are not sold in the Monopole, but do to the changes of the way of thinking and also the internet commerce, it is much easier to buy such good wines. With that in mind, I am going to write about great wines that even though you can not get them Á.T.V.R. you can buy the legally on the internet. I will be putting a link to where you can buy the wines at the end of the articles.

The wine of the month for November is from one of my favourite producers in Chile, Ventisquero. This is not a cheap wine but more of a middle priced to slightly expensive type but not really bad in the price department when you have this type of quality. The Vertice is not even the most exspenive in the Ventisquro line, but there is something about it that just attracts me, most likely it´s knowing it´s such a strange blend (at least where I live). For me the thought of Carmenere and Syrah blended together just does not sound right and my first thought it would never work. Once again I am wrong (thank god) and the blend in the Vertice comes out fantastic.

Vertice from Apalta Vineyard in Valle Colchagua, Chile árg. 2017 has a very open aroma with lots of black cherries, pepper, vanilla, forest fruits and espresso coffee. The palate is heavy and rich in tannins with black forest fruits, liquorice, mint, vanilla and coffee. It´s good to taste how everything blends so well together and how well the wine is balanced. The aftertaste is long in alcohol which is not suprising, it is 14.5%! You can drink it now or keep it for at least 5 more years. Fits perfect with lamb or beef in heavy sauces, the price is 7.400 kr. and you can buy it here.
