Colognole Riserva del Don Chianti Rufina 2015
I can not deny I like seeing small producers do well, and are considered so good that they export most of their product. The Spalleti family in Italy has been producing wine since 1890 and about 70% of their wines are exported. That is impressive when they only produce wine on 27 hectaters and their total production is 110.000 bottles. That a small producer like that can be found in our wine shops is good news indeed, especially when the quality is as good as the Riserva del Don.
Colognole Riserva del Don Chianti Rufina 2015 is not a heavy wine, neither in the aroma or palate, and I doubt the winemaker wanted it to be a heavy wine. For me this is the way a good Chainti should be. The aroma is very open and starts with a warm strawberry, lyngberry, mushroom og light oaky nose. The palate is smooth with cherry jam, kirsch and slight butter, toast and almonds to it and the balance of the tannins and fruits is very good. Even though I usaully like to drink and suggest heavier wines with steak, I can see drinking this wine with a good beef tenderlion, it would also fit nicely with wild fowel. The wine is ready to drink but can be kept for another 5-6 years. The price is fair at 4.599 kr.
