In between tasting as many of the new wines on the market as I can. I like to taste some of the wines from the „good old days“. I like to taste them to see how they compare to the newer wines on the market from the same areas. Some have stood up quite nicely, others not so much.
. One of the wines that has stood up nicely is Ruffino Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico.
Ruffino has been on the Icelandic market for a long time, at least since I started my apprenticeship more than 30 years ago. Back then it was considered a „Holiday“ wine, to be drunk only with expensive meals on special occasions. The truth is, this is not a „Holiday“ or collecters wine, it is a good quality wine that can be enjoyed any time with good food.

Ruffino Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico 2017 is quite open in the nose with lots of cherrywild muhrooms and redcurrant. The palate has a wonderful, cherry, paprika, oregano and coffee flavour that balances nicely with the tannins. You can store this wine for three or four years but my feeling is that it´s ready now and will not gain much by storing longer. The wine would fit best with tomato sauce pastas, pizza or well spiced chicken. The only thing wrong with this wine, it has one of ugliest labels on the shelves at the moment, but I am willing to look past that, after all the wine itself is more important than the label. The price is 3.699 kr..
