Mezzopiano Valpolicella Ripasso 2017
The reknowned wine expert Robert Parker once said about Valpolicella that at it´s best it was „Industrial garbage“. Truth be told I agreed with him 100% (and I seldom agree with Robert Parker), but times have changed and the Valpolicella producers have realised that if they did not do something about the qaulity of the their wines, they would be left behind and be stuck with something unsellable. Today you can find some really good Valpolicella, both in standard form and Ripasso. A good example is this wine.
Ca´della Scala Mezzopiano Valpolicella Ripasso 2017 ( they couldn´t shorten the name??) has lots of cherries and lyng in the nose with some earthiness in the background. The palate is balanced with cherries, earth, some wild mushrooms and tannins. The after taste has medium length and medium weight. Not a wine to keep, drink it now in the summer time with grill food such as meats with little fat and of course pasta! The price is fair at 3.370 kr.
